Training A Puppy
It's very important that when training puppies, owners set multiple times during the day for playing and training. Short periods no longer than an hour of activity should be given at least three times a day to keep the puppy happy and playful as it's important for training a puppy. So follow these puppy training tips to help you determine when and where you should play or train your puppy.
No matter what size, breed, or age of your puppy; it's important that owners pick a specific area where training puppies will occur.
My puppy, Roo, is only 5 pounds so I have a little play pen that I use to block off part of the sunroom. It's gives us plenty of space when I give her training lessons and gives her plenty of space for her to play with her toys.If your puppy is bigger, you can pick a whole room as an activity room. Or you can use a gate to block off half of the room. Whatever you decide, make sure that there is enough space for both of you and make sure that you keep all activities in that one area. Training a puppy will be made much more difficult if you continuously change activity areas. Consistency is important for puppies to learn successfully.
Let's continue on by discussing when they should have their activity periods. Like I said earlier in this training puppies post, it's very important to have many small periods of time where your puppy is active (at least 3 times a day and each period should be limited to under 1 hour). You want to make sure that they get enough time to play but don't over exhaust their bodies.
Puppies need time to play to keep their emotions happy and positive but they also need a lot of time to eat and sleep to grow optimally. So follow these puppy training tips. First, always have your puppies activity time right after meals as the food will help them concentrate more during training sessions.
Second if needed, have your puppy play in between meals. Your puppy should not sleep more than 2-3 hours at a time other than at night. So if there is a lengthy period between meals, break it up with an activity session. However, training a puppy during these times will probably not be the best as their concentration levels will be low. The idea here is to keep them in an environment and routine that will be very conducive to good health and growth.
Now some of you may not be able to keep a tight schedule like this because of work or kids or whatever you have to do during the day. That's ok. Your puppy will still be happy and healthy once you get home. What's important to take from this training puppies post is to make a routine and keep it consistent. Otherwise training a puppy will become very difficult, stressful and irritating.
