Training Puppies:

When And Where You Should Play/Train Your Puppy

Puppy Training Tips Image

Training A Puppy

It's very important that when training puppies, owners set multiple times during the day for playing and training. Short periods no longer than an hour of activity should be given at least three times a day to keep the puppy happy and playful as it's important for training a puppy. So follow these puppy training tips to help you determine when and where you should play or train your puppy.

No matter what size, breed, or age of your puppy; it's important that owners pick a specific area where training puppies will occur.

My puppy, Roo, is only 5 pounds so I have a little play pen that I use to block off part of the sunroom. It's gives us plenty of space when I give her training lessons and gives her plenty of space for her to play with her toys.

If your puppy is bigger, you can pick a whole room as an activity room. Or you can use a gate to block off half of the room. Whatever you decide, make sure that there is enough space for both of you and make sure that you keep all activities in that one area. Training a puppy will be made much more difficult if you continuously change activity areas. Consistency is important for puppies to learn successfully.

Let's continue on by discussing when they should have their activity periods. Like I said earlier in this training puppies post, it's very important to have many small periods of time where your puppy is active (at least 3 times a day and each period should be limited to under 1 hour). You want to make sure that they get enough time to play but don't over exhaust their bodies.

Puppies need time to play to keep their emotions happy and positive but they also need a lot of time to eat and sleep to grow optimally. So follow these puppy training tips. First, always have your puppies activity time right after meals as the food will help them concentrate more during training sessions.

Second if needed, have your puppy play in between meals. Your puppy should not sleep more than 2-3 hours at a time other than at night. So if there is a lengthy period between meals, break it up with an activity session. However, training a puppy during these times will probably not be the best as their concentration levels will be low. The idea here is to keep them in an environment and routine that will be very conducive to good health and growth.

Now some of you may not be able to keep a tight schedule like this because of work or kids or whatever you have to do during the day. That's ok. Your puppy will still be happy and healthy once you get home. What's important to take from this training puppies post is to make a routine and keep it consistent. Otherwise training a puppy will become very difficult, stressful and irritating.

Training Puppies:

Best Times To Feed Your Puppy

Puppy Training Tips Picture

Training A Puppy

Training puppies is more than just following a routine, you must follow it strictly. You must feed, play, train and put to sleep everyday around the same time. This will keep puppies healthy and make training a puppy easier to accomplish. So it's important that you owners follow these puppy training tips when feeding your puppy.

A young puppy needs to be fed around 3 times a day. They need a lot of energy to grow and all animals get their energy from the foods they eat. Also, puppies are much more energetic so they need even more food. Hey, training puppies just don't take a lot of you.

So follow these simple puppy training tips when feeding your puppy. Feed them once in the morning right after they wake up and use the bathroom. Feed them once at night about an hour before they go to bed so they have time to digest the food. It's important to not feed your puppy to close to bedtime. Finally, feed them once in the exact middle of when you feed them in the morning and at night.

Some more puppy training tips, feed your puppy more in the morning and less at night. Once again, they need a lot of food in the morning to keep their energy levels up when you start training puppies.

Lastly, what are you suppose to do with treats? Feed them as many treats as you wish as long as they are following commands. It will make training a puppy much more difficult if you give them treats whenever you want. Remember from an earlier training puppies post, a treat is suppose to be a signal of success. Giving them a treat whenever they want will only confuse this signal.

Training Puppies:

The Simple Routine All Puppies Must Follow

Training A Puppy

Training puppies successfully is all about keeping them in a routine. As I said in earlier training a puppy posts, puppies learn by repetition so following a strict routine is exactly what will help them learn quickly.

For the most part, it's important for owners to follow these puppy training tips. For puppies, during the day there shouldn't be much more done than following a simple 4 step routine.
  1. Eat
  2. Play/Train
  3. Sleep
  4. Repeat
That's all that training puppies is. Doing anything more than this will only confuse and delay the learning process. As long as you follow this routine day after day, you'll be fine in training a puppy.

The first thing you do when you wake up after taking your puppy to the bathroom is to feed them. As in an earlier training puppies post, I recommended feeding them 3 times a day. But whatever you chose, by following a strict feeding routine, eventually your puppy will get into a balanced nutritious diet.

The second thing after they eat is let them play and run around and if you want, start using puppy training tips to get them learning. A puppy will always be full of energy once after waking up and it's important that they work off that energy.

After playing, a puppy will get tired and needs to get sleep. A puppy must eat a lot and must get a lot of sleep. Rest will allow the puppy to stay healthy and let the body grow in optimal conditions. I give Roo, my puppy, at least 2 naps per day. And I would suggest the same for you. Training a puppy to take a nap isn't hard either, they will usually be very tired after being active.

Finally, you repeat these puppy training tips until the day is over, until it's time to go to sleep for the night. You determine how long you want them to be up during the day and make consistent routine from these four steps to fit the day. Everything is under your control. Remember, training a puppy is easy as long as they are kept in a strict and consistent routine.
